  Ambassadors and other diplomats from Baghdad & Erbil visited the holy Lalish temple on the occasion of ‘Cejna Cema’. Mr. Saurabh Awasthi, Second Secretary, represented the Embassy of India. The delegation was received & accompanied by His Highness Yazidi Prince Hazim Tahsin Beg and Dr. Khalaf Kheder Sinjari, Advisor to the Iraqi Prime Minister on Yazidi affairs.   On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 156th Birth Anniversary, Ambassador Soumen Bagchi, accompanied by Embassy officials, visited the American University of Iraq – Baghdad (AUIB). AUIB President Dr. Bradley Cook welcomed the delegation and briefed them on the university’s initiatives and future plans. Ambassador presented a traditional Indian woollen stole to the President. The visit concluded with the Ambassador and Embassy officials paying floral tribute at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi installed on the campus, followed by a visit to the ‘India Corner’ established at the AUIB library. - October 06, 2025

  As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, the Embassy of India in Baghdad organized a series of activities promoting cleanliness and environmental awareness. All officials actively participated in cleaning their office work-spaces as well as in Shramdan activities, including cleaning the areas around the Chancery. The initiative also saw enthusiastic participation from local residents, who contributed significantly to the cleanliness drive. In addition, a special lecture was organized on the harmful effects of plastic on the environment, encouraging the use of eco-friendly alternatives. - September 30, 2025

  The 79th Independence Day of India was celebrated with patriotic fervour at the Embassy of India in Baghdad on 15th August 2025. Ambassador Soumen Bagchi hoisted the National Flag, followed by the National Anthem and a reading of excerpts from the President of India's Address to the Nation. The event was attended by around 150 guests, including members of the Indian diaspora, ITEC/ICCR scholars, yoga students, and friends of India. - August 17, 2025

  On 09 July, Ambassador Soumen Bagchi hosted a dinner for 35 Iraqi diplomats on their return from successful completion of the 5th Special Course conducted by SSIFS in India. Dr. Hisham Al Alawi, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ms. Abeer Khaleefah, Deputy Dean of Iraqi FSI, graced the occasion. Both sides emphasized the importance of India-Iraq bilateral relations and the need for continued efforts to further strengthen them. Diplomats who undertook the course shared their views, and expressed appreciation for the training, hospitality, and cultural experiences during their stay. - July 14, 2025

  Thirty-five young diplomats from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq successfully completed the 5th Special Course for Diplomats conducted by the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS), New Delhi. The Dean of SSIFS, Amb Raj Srivastava, conferred valedictory certificates to the participants in the presence of H.E. Nazar Mirjan, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in New Delhi. The course was enriched with multiple interactive sessions covering a wide range of topics, including India’s agriculture and food security policies, digital public infrastructure, global geopolitics and geoeconomic landscapes, negotiation skills and trade diplomacy, artificial intelligence and responsible frameworks, tabletop exercises on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), public diplomacy, cultural affairs and media management, traditional and non-traditional security threats, and the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.   The 11th International Day of Yoga under the theme ‘Yoga for one earth one health’ was celebrated on 21st June 2025 by the Embassy of India Baghdad in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Iraq. The 11th IDY was attended by nearly 300 Iraqi citizens from all walks of life, including Iraqi government officials, business community, young sports persons and yoga enthusiasts. - June 25, 2025
