On 4 September, Ambassador Soumen Bagchi met with representatives from various Chambers of Commerce in Iraq to explore opportunities for strengthening bilateral trade and economic cooperation between India and Iraq.
On 4 September, Ambassador Soumen Bagchi met with Mr. Maher Al-Zubaidi, former President of the Iraqi-Indian Economic Cooperation Foundation and Dr. Shatha Zuhaire, Chairwoman of the Iraqi Businesswomen Council.
During a pre-departure ceremony held at the Embassy of India, Baghdad, Ambassador Soumen Bagchi handed over the visas and air tickets to the candidates selected for the ITEC (Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation) training courses and conveyed his best wishes for a successful and enriching training experience in India.

On the occasion of 79th Independence Day, convocation certificates were distributed by Ambassador of India to yoga students for successful completion of their yoga courses at the Indian Embassy.
The 79th Independence Day of India was celebrated with patriotic fervour at the Embassy of India in Baghdad on 15th August 2025. Ambassador Soumen Bagchi hoisted the National Flag, followed by the National Anthem and a reading of excerpts from the President of India's Address to the Nation. The event was attended by around 150 guests, including members of the Indian diaspora, ITEC/ICCR scholars, yoga students, and friends of India.

On 09 July, Ambassador Soumen Bagchi hosted a dinner for 35 Iraqi diplomats on their return from successful completion of the 5th Special Course conducted by SSIFS in India. Dr. Hisham Al Alawi, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ms. Abeer Khaleefah, Deputy Dean of Iraqi FSI, graced the occasion. Both sides emphasized the importance of India-Iraq bilateral relations and the need for continued efforts to further strengthen them. Diplomats who undertook the course shared their views, and expressed appreciation for the training, hospitality, and cultural experiences during their stay.
On 09 July, Ambassador Soumen Bagchi called on H.E. Mr. Mohammed Hussein Bahr Al-Uloum, Deputy Minister for Bilateral Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Thirty-five young diplomats from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq successfully completed the 5th Special Course for Diplomats conducted by the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS), New Delhi. The Dean of SSIFS, Amb Raj Srivastava, conferred valedictory certificates to the participants in the presence of H.E. Nazar Mirjan, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in New Delhi. The course was enriched with multiple interactive sessions covering a wide range of topics, including India’s agriculture and food security policies, digital public infrastructure, global geopolitics and geoeconomic landscapes, negotiation skills and trade diplomacy, artificial intelligence and responsible frameworks, tabletop exercises on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), public diplomacy, cultural affairs and media management, traditional and non-traditional security threats, and the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. In the run-up to International Day of Yoga 2025, many yoga competitions were organised by the Embassy of India, Baghdad and the winners were awarded by cash prizes and certificates on the main IDY 2025 event.
The Embassy of India in Baghdad expresses its sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Iraq for its valued support in celebrating the 11th International Day of Yoga. The 11th International Day of Yoga under the theme ‘Yoga for one earth one health’ was celebrated on 21st June 2025 by the Embassy of India Baghdad in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Iraq. The 11th IDY was attended by nearly 300 Iraqi citizens from all walks of life, including Iraqi government officials, business community, young sports persons and yoga enthusiasts.
